St. James’ Settlement Walk for Charity Fund Raising

March 18 was an extremely meaningful day. Thanks to God, it was a balmy day. Yearly Charity Walk was held on this day. We were assembled in the early morning in Admiralty. We rode on a coach bound for Shek Pai Wan Playground, Aberdeen in a happy and relaxed mood. Although it was the first time to attend this Charity Walk, the numbers of participants were as many as before. Everybody waited orderly for the ceremony. Other participants arrived one after another. There were elderly people, people with mental retardation, and people with their family members. Firstly, Brass band performed, and then the speech by guest of honor, and awarding ceremony took place. The slogan for this time was “Let’s cooperate with one heart to make an impressive achievement” The target amount of fund-raising was one million Hong Kong dollars. And the total amount raised was in excess of the target amount through great supports from various fields. Andy World Club which always takes the initiative to do good deeds, gained prize of “Fund-Raising Champion of external association” It was a motivational and honorable prize to Andy World Club. After a dragon dance performance, the charity walk was officially started. Lead by the dragon dance team and guests, walkers were off triumphantly to the pond in a lively and vibrant atmosphere.

This event was well thought out that volunteers were placed along the trails and explained about the plants ranging around the area, such as Hibiscus, Macaranga Tanarius, and Fig, and so on. In addition to it, they explained about the history of Aberdeen reservoir. And therefore, we could expand our knowledge while enjoying the scenery. We could learn about the beautiful spots in Hong Kong and enjoyed barbecue after the walk. Except for that, therapy animals also helped for the fund-raising by taking photos with participants. This kind of event is suitable for people of all ages. This organization provides various services to help people in every district in Hong Kong. We had a special experience and learnt about new knowledge through the walk. Taking photos and making jokes all the way, we completed the charity walk in a relaxed mood.

We spent an enjoyable and meaningful morning! Here,I would like to thanks to members who enthusiastically contributed and positively participated this event. I hope to see members again next year. Thank you!
