16 March is an extraordinary day!
I arrived at the Lobby at 1 pm and saw our family members who were going to join the Hand in Hand Party lining up for admission. A special counter was set up by the staff for those overseas members to collect 2013 Membership Card and uniform. The attentive arrangement was appreciated.
‘Andy World Club’ is a familiar wording to me but not for the Hong Kong centre itself. HK AWC is in white tone as its theme decoration, cabinets, floor…are all in white color. Different awards of Andy are being placed in the cabinets while presents from members are being displayed for sharing. All these make the HOME fill with colors. Today, I not only walked into this HOME, but also allowed my dream come true – meeting Andy in person.
Entering the activity room which was decorated as a Café and AWC staff dressed in waiter costumes handing me a brochure about this HOME. I took a seat and started reading the finely printed booklet as if it has lots of hidden enchantment inside. Before the Party officially began, MC introduced a page in the brochure that enabled us to jot down contact methods of members whom we newly met. Immediately, with a pen and the booklet in hand, I exchanged the contact methods with the members who were sitting nearby.
MC and Maggie, the Chairlady, introduced every item in the brochure for us at the beginning of the Party. And we were like primary students focused on listening to their description. After that, MC asked us to welcome our Big Parent – Andy. Charming Andy entered the Café via the main entrance and shook hands with us. Then, he stepped on the stage and I was sitting in the front row! I couldn’t imagine that ‘Andy’ who is already my idol since my young age was standing right in front of me! He, as a householder, kindly greeted very family members and chatted with all of us as if we had known each other for long although there were quite a number of new joiners among us. MC also invited some volunteers to share their experience of being 20-year volunteers in AWC. Next, a new member was invited to share about how he recommended six other persons to join AWC. His humor made us all in laughter!
Time flew and it was towards the end of the Party. In deed, there was a very important session before the closure of it – photo-taking with Andy. Members burst into thunderous applause when MC announced the starting of the session. We all felt nervous! Although some were old members, happiness could still been seen on faces while taking pictures with Andy. It’s my turn! With the present for him in hand, I quickly walked on the stage. “Chuff” – these 3 to 10 seconds was a significant moment for me because it was the FIRST time that I took photo with Andy after following him for years.
Happiness often slipped away fast and we were somehow not willing to say goodbye to Andy! Taking picture with Andy for the first time taught me to cherish the moments of enjoyment which belonged to family members and to Andy. I will never forget about them!
