Thursday 02 October 2008, Hong Kong Megastar Andy Lau arrived in Sydney Kingsford-Smith Airport after 7 years. The Aussie fans waited for Andy at the airport and prepared a bouquet of orange flowers, fresh fruit, dried fruit baskets and the utmost eye catching ORANGE banner saying “Andy World Club Australia and New Zealand” and the AWC logo on it.
We had been longing for Andy’s return for the past years and finally he performed one successful concert and joined the Dream Comes True (Sydney) Gathering in the following day.
Everyone was screaming for ANDY ANDY ANDY …. He has finally appeared in his casual black and white square shirt worn over a white T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans with his trademark white sneakers attire. As always he was so adorable and gorgeous, he melted our hearts away with his warming and charming smile. After he said his greetings, various programmes started, which included photo-taking, games and Q & A sessions.
The photo session started from the back table and everyone were very happy and satisfied!
All fans had prepared their special birthday gifts to give to Andy personally. The Aussie fans prepared something special for him to remember us from down under.
Next session was a Jigsaw puzzle game. There was a brown envelop on every table and 12 pieces in it. The fastest team who completed the puzzle first would receive a Wonderful World 3-D notebook as a prize and another chance to have a group photo with Andy.
I could imagine everyone have the urge to ask Andy plenty of questions. Andy answered truly to each of the questions, which included if he had spent time for local sightseeing, to Cairns, to Blue Mountain or swimming in the Great Barrier Reef. Question about Andy’s unfulfilled dream and he mentioned by not participating in the National bowling team for the Asian Game. Question about about his most favourite song. Where he had to really think and said that each album is special but for Mandarin songs Andy point out “Practice”, “Today”, “Silly Child” and “If One Day”.
Andy then asked the fan who asked the question what her most favourite song was. She mentioned all of his songs. Question about the possibility of concerts in Indonesia and USA. He replied nothing was definite at this stage, no plans for now hopefully in the near future.
To celebrate Andy’s birthday in the Aussie way, we the Australian fans had prepared him a special birthday cake. The invention of the cake symbolised the Sydney Opera House and AWC logo represented the sun that always shine towards our beautiful harbour. When the birthday music was on, we sang the song together. I presented the Birthday card with everyone’s signature to Andy. Then, several members also presented their home-made gifts for him. The most outstanding gift was the Didgeridoo, made of the Eucalyptus tree also known as gum tree grown in the Australian outback the desert. This Didgeridoo is a wind instrument of the Indigenous Australian, the Aboriginal people. Besides, a gift was also prepared for Maggie for organizing such great Gathering.
Before I wrapped up for the day Andy personally visited every single table and had conversation with everyone for about 5-7 minutes. Thank you very much Andy for spending some time with us in his busy and tight schedule. We were very excited and would be waiting for another gathering with Andy.
P.S. Andy left Sydney on October 6, 2008. Since the gathering with Andy, I was too excited to fall into sleep for a few days. It seemed we were in a dream.
