Today is the International Women’s day and it was also a big day that we had been waited for so long – Andy Lau’s Second-Hand Apparel Charity Sale and Auction. There were two sections on that day, the morning section and the afternoon one. Around 9am in the morning, the venue was already fully packed with members from all around the world who had been waiting for the charity sale to begint. At 10am, members were finally allowed to go in and for sure everyone wanted to buy some good products among all. There were lots of different items on that day such as jackets, suits, shirts, sportswear, jeans, various types of shoes, even sunglasses etc and etc. We were all choosing and picking the best among all these products happily and excitedly. Everyone looked satisfied with what they had bought and chosen too.
In the afternoon, we finally came to the Charity Auction which everyone was longing for. Once we were all settled down in the hall, a handsome guy who came out with a pair of cool glasses and a charming look all of a sudden, which immediately led to a thunderous applause. We all knew that was our BIG PARENT, Andy. He acted as an auctioneer and started to read out the rules for auction humorously that made all of us burst into laughter as well.
The first auction was the glasses that Andy wore on that day. Although the glasses were not prepared for the auction initially, Andy asked the members if they still remembered he designed glasses before. Upon members’ request, Andy agreed to take that off for auction. It was finally bid at twenty-one thousand Hong Kong dollars. Apart from this, the following auctions were very attractive too, for examples, the Batman Eye Cover and the furry hat that he used during the shooting for calendar, the sportswear that he wore in the AWC 26TH Anniversary Party, and also the black AWC uniform that Andy designed. Every products’ bid varied, starting from five hundred, some shouted ‘twelve thousand’, followed by ‘twenty thousand’ etc. All of us including Andy felt excited about the final price.
Furthermore, it came to the most exciting part as Andy showed us the most important products in the auction. The first one 1) the white suit that Andy wore in the Shanghai Expo activities, with different autographs of other performers, 2) The white leather jacket that Andy wore when he was present in the Smap x Smap television show as a guest with Takako Tokiwa during the movie promotion for ‘A Fighters’ Blues’. All Smap members also signed their names on it as well. These two auctions were sold at a high bid at last and Andy even signed on them as memento. Last but not least, the last auction was the ‘Magua’, the buttoned mandarin jacket that Andy wore in the 2015 Spring Festival when he was singing ‘回家的路’. He even told us that the boutonniere on the top was sewed by himself and we all made a joke that he should keep the jacket and wear it when his daughter get married. After a heated competition, it was sold at a record-breaking price at one hundred thousand Hong Kong dollars.
After this whole day of charity activities, it proved that all of the AWC members have a loving heart, and are willing to help to raise a substantial amount of donation. At the end of the Charity Auction, Andy kept giving thanks to all the supports and the donations from the family members and hoped that we can always contribute to help the society and the world.
