The AWC family was anxious about Andy’s injury caused by falling off a horse in January this year. We were concerned about every single news report on his situation. Until getting Andy’s personal update on his positive status, we were all relieved. We prayed every day for his recovery as the way Andy giving us positive energy. Having a faith in his recovery, we didn’t expect the rehabilitation progress takes that short. We were surprised by the announcement made on July, confirming the birthday party will be held on 16th September. With our worry and expectation, Andy’s commitment was going to be accomplished soon.
We decided to join the birthday party without hesitation. The notice of assembling senior members was released shortly. Knowing that the related activities would took place during the birthday party; I was decisive to travel to Hong Kong to get the senior membership affirmation. All senior members had to arrive the venue at 3:00pm for rehearsal. Many AWC family members were outside the venue at 2:00pm. Putting stamps on their passports, lining up for purchasing gadgets, playing the mini-games and taking photo near the decoration, the entrance area of the venue was very cheerful.
After checking-in, we got the hand string for our early arrival. The mobile ring with ‘Andy Lau’ print and the admission badge started the wonderful journey. Around 200 senior members and volunteers followed the instruction of the staff and got ready on the stage. All of a sudden, we heard Andy’s songs* and sang along while seeing the lyrics. Our worry and long waiting were released through music and tears. When we had our third practice, Andy’s appearance excited us.
We could eventually meet a healthy Andy. His bright and breezy steps totally relieved us. We lined up for getting the medals and bracelets; as well as taking photos with Andy before the party started. It was as exciting as our first meet with Andy. The flashing made us dizzy. Only when we see the picture, we can make sure that it was not a dream.
The show started on time, we stepped on the stage one by one. All of us inside the venue sang together. Everybody gave Andy a big hand when he appeared on the stage. After giving a short speech, he sang several songs*. As what he sang, we treasured and were proud of him. We will never forget the moment we stand on the stage with him.
Andy left the stage and seated with his parents and the two ‘princesses’ to enjoy the show. The first performance session was acrobatics rope skipping. Their techniques and coordination amazed all of us. We are looking forward to seeing their performance in the future. The MC and the dancers led us dance and sing together*.
The next performers, Sandra Ng and Ronald Cheng, surprised us. Andy chatted with them and shared more about the accident in a rather casual way, making the 8-month suffering became less painful. They also introduced a 68-year-old ballerina to us. Her performance was so outstanding that inspired the audience.
Andy’s supporters recorded their greeting messages in a video to show how much they miss him during the days. The AWC family prepared a handmade small house with colorful bottle lids as a birthday gift to Andy, representing our wholehearted support to him. Andy shared a video, recording the rehabilitation days, as a gift for his supporters. The video included his recovery progress in the hospital, and also the scenes with Mrs. Lau and their daughter. With Andy’s gentle sound of singing, the video was especially touching.
Andy also expressed his sincere gratefulness to Mrs. Lau and promised that he would take care of himself very well. Family is always the best medicine during the bad days.
Andy’s friends, parents, wife and daughter went on the stage and celebrated his birthday together. The creative team of AWC prepared an adorable crystal ball for Andy. Last but not least, Andy’s father opened the champagne while we were singing the birthday song.
Andy’s performance session started eventually. Andy told us that he was unable to perform dynamically as he was just recovered. However, an energetic music came to our ears suddenly. We danced and sang with Andy, pushing the atmosphere to the peak. The dynamic medley was followed by a series of love songs*. Andy said goodbye to us with Mrs. Lau and their daughter on the stage after the encore session, giving the party a happy ending.
I am grateful that Andy gave us such a beautiful night. More importantly, he gathered the fans from the different part of the world, giving us the chance to know each other. As what Andy said, ‘Forget (the sadness) yesterday and grasp (the happiness) today. Strive for a bright tomorrow’. I hope Andy and the AWC family can take care of themselves and cherish the moment we meet.
