The sun on 12th June was particularly bright and hot. It seemed it was celebrating AWC 22nd anniversary, too. As time goes by, it’s already the twenty two years for AWC. The anniversary was held on 12th June in HK Convention Centre, with members from other parts of the world.
“Circus” is the main theme of the celebration, which could be clearly seen on the stage. Andox and Box kicked off the celebration, who led a group of guys dressed as monkeys and leopards on stage. When the music ”Nobody” started, screams filled up the complete venue. Followed by Andy who showed up from the mid-stage. Applauses immediately became deafening. Andy dressed in black suite and excitedly approaching Andox and Box. When he saw their moustache, he claimed that his sons had grown up and the audiences laught with them.
Exciting programmes immediately followed, which included Rope Skipping and juggling. They were so skillful that Andy kept clapping his hands. Next was a mirror dance performed by 2 little girls. One of them was an Oldies in this year so Andy said that he’d known her since she was newly born! The next performance was juggling and an animal tamer dance. Andy expressed that they were so professional that they should be considered to performed in his concert.
After the performance, here came an important session – 10year Oldies Presentation. We found one 9 and 6-month years old girl and one 9-year old boy. Andy was so happy and said that he was hoping more people to join AWC. The next presentation was to the Seniors. 28 members came from different countries expressing their unforgettable memories on stage and receiving a trophy from Andy.
The final session of the evening was Andy’s show time. Surprisingly, he sang a newly arranged song “No request in life”, new song “The feeling of the Earth” and “Love you one thousand year”. The audience was drowning in his singing. As Andy would held his concerts in Hong Kong at the end of the year, this performance was a pre-concert, and said till then to the audience, he then ran to the backstage. For sure, the word “encore” …. was continuously heard. Andy was so energetic, watching the audience behind the curtain from here and there. Screams sound like thunders and here came the encore part, which included “The underlying”, “Happy Monkeys” … Andy also went down stage to the audience. When he was on stage again, he found the buttons on the clothes had been missing. He laughed and said that what would happen at the year end concert!! Then, Andy dedicated “My Babe” to all. Screams kept going. Although we are so familiar with this song, whenever Andy is singing it live, I can’t help stop tears from my eyes. The lyrics are so touching and deeply conveyed by Andy.
A special session was added this year. It was a presentation to “10-year volunteers”. Presenting a trophy to the volunteers was a way to thank their great supports and help towars the Club. Apart from the trophy, Andy also send them, “ I Love Your, Baby!”
To wind up the evening, Andy asked the audience if 22 years were easy to accomplish. For sure, it’s not easy. We hoped to extend and expand our Club and put on our love.
