‘A Simple Life’ is the focus of the overseas film festivals attention. Apart from Deanie Ip who was awarded the “Coppa Volpi for Best Actress” in the Venice International Film Festival, the film also won “Signis Award – Honorable Mention”, the “Equal Opportunity Award” and other film awards. The film was invited to be one of the “Special” movies in the Toronto International Film Festival. ‘A Simple Life’ has caused prolonged applause after the premieres in major film festivals. The close relationship between the male and female characters arouses the worldwide audience’s sympathy although it is a Chinese movie about the local Hong Kong Story. And many foreign journalists gave very good reviews after watching the film and reassured the outstanding performance of Deanie Ip.

It is not an easy task to receive the Best Actress award from theVenice. Deanie gave a faultless performance to win the award, even herself caught a surprise about that. She thanked the director in the glee feast without losing the sense of humor, “I didn’t act for ten more years, and I thought nobody will remember me. I haven’t expected when director Ann Hui invited me, I could win the Best Actress Award fromVenice. I am grateful to her and wish she can find me more for filming, remuneration is not the point. The most important is there should be a super star like Andy to accompany with me.”

Being the male lead and the producer, Andy expressed, “’A Simple Life’ is just like our child. Now it is born, whether it is good or not except these awards, but also rely on the comments of audience. I hope it is just the beginning and we will receive more awards in the next step. Of course, good box office is better.”

It was a pity that he could not share the happiness of Deanie who was rewarded the Best Actress award since he had to hurry back Hong Kong for a charity event. He joked that on the first day he knew she should be the Best Actress. He also revealed that he would continue to support non-mainstream films, “It is not because we get those awards or good box office or somehow that let us continue. It is because it does need someone to promote it step by step.”
