“Camping is fun!” I have heard about this from other members after joining AWC. Since it has been a long while that AWC hasn’t held this activity, I can only imagine what it is all about. But, this year I got a chance to take part in this ‘great event’ of AWC.
On 17 December, my friends and I arrived at the gathering point of Wu Kai Sha Youth Village on time. After the briefing, we settled down in our bedroom and finished the dinner. Then the most looking forward moment began.
We were divided into ten groups for competitions. After the admission to the activity hall, we sat according to our respective groups and the atmosphere was super excited although Andy had not yet appeared. While waiting for him, we prepared slogans for our groups, discussed strategies for winning and practiced the love encouragement slogan with the MC to welcome Andy, “Camping with Andy, Having non-stop fun”. After the warm-up, our Big Brother was on stage with his Golden Horse trophy and our cheers!!!
With no further delay, the competition began. The first game was “Scavenger”. After the introduction of the game by Andy and the MC, each group tried their best to collect the required stuff and submit to staff for scoring. Wins and losses are common in competitions. If one loses in this game, one can catch up later. The second game was named “Fly Beyond the Sky”. From the title, it was certainly related to airplanes. Participants were required to present their own paper planes and winner would be going to the one which flied the farthest. Our Big Bro was ambitious to show off when he saw the participants preparing the paper planes.
Followed by “Guess the song” after the paper plane game. The special part of this game was that a French member was invited to humming the songs of Andy for the groups to guess. As the loyal fans of him, we could accurately shout out the songs’ names with just a few notes. That was amazing!!! But comparing with this French-speaking girl, who was able to sing “Seventeen years old” with fluent Cantonese, that was even amazing!!!
The fourth game “You Drink, I Drink”, which was the drinking of green tea competition. The fastest group that finished three bottles of green tea would be the winner. Our Big Bro was stunned when he saw the participants selflessly drinking the tea. And the last game was to test one’s memory – “Sensitive ear and deftly hand”. Andy read out a list of long and complicated order of a restaurant and required us to jot down the details and answer his questions followed by. We were so concentrated to write down the order details and checked carefully before handing in the answers to the staff.
It was time for Q & A after several rounds of exciting games. Just like the old time when we were students, Andy was sitting in the middle on a high chair and we sat around him in circle chatting with one another. We talked about his work, like when he would have concert tour again, schedule of 2012 and even the “good news” about his family. Our kind Big Bro told us everything that we would like to know. With Andy’s presence, for sure there would be singing section. This time, he invited Jacky to accompany with guitar to sing Canton songs one after another, such as <恰似你的溫柔>、<前程錦繡>、<問我>、 、<沒有翅膀的天使> 及 <如果有一天>. Happened that day was the birthday of one of the members, Andy sang a birthday song as requested. Sitting by the side of Andy, singing and chatting with him was the greatest issue in life. Before going back to our rooms, Big Bro had prepared dessert for each of us at the end of the party.
Though we only had few hours of rest only, we woke up early in the next morning and joined Andy for morning exercises. With some warm-up, he led us to run in the basket court. After that, we went to the canteen to have breakfast. When we were feeding ourselves, he came in and had breakfast with us under the same roof!!! As it was his private time, we did not want to disturb him, so we looked at him in distance or said ‘good morning’ to him when he rose his head occasionally.
It was the time for final competition. To compete against the Guests team with Andy as leader, each group all tried their best to enter for the semi-final. There were only two games – “Hand in Hand” and “Hit a New Record”. The former one required five in a group and used the shortest time to pass through the hula ring from one end to the other by holding each other’s hands. For the later one – “Hit a New Record” which tested our team-work and strategies, we were required to stand in a designated area with as many people as possible to win the game. Watching the groups used all kinds of methods to push as many members as possible into the ‘square’, I was so worried about them when there was dangerous situation.
At last, the winners went to Yellow, Green and Brown group and they had to fight with the Guest Team to win the champion. The ultimate competition was a series of sports game like the four-legged race, balancing with book on head, transporting table tennis ball with spoon and balloons delivery. The final winner would go to the group who used the shortest time. If the three groups could not win the final competition, they had to hand over all their prizes of the previous games to the other seven groups.
Our Big Bro was really funny! When he heard the MC describing the one way four-legged race, he suddenly asked why there was no need to return. Everyone was confused by his question, he then laughed and said, “I want to see how they U-turn as it must be funny with the four-legged race.” Andy and his companions were well prepared and played even harder than us! And the final champion was the Guest Team! According to the rules, our group had to share the prizes with others but Andy didn’t want to disappoint any of us. He decided to give each of us an autographed poster.
Before leaving the camp, Andy took picture with all participants and reminded us not to give hard time to the crew. We went home with excitement after lunch.
Joining the camping really widen my horizon of how fun could be with AWC activities. As what Andy said, safety also played an important role in the enjoyment. I hope every one of us can comply with the rules and do not make it difficult with the staff and let down our Big Bro in the up-coming activities. Although the problem of following regulations has cast a little flaw on this event, I still have to say “Camping with Andy, Having non-stop fun”!!!
Thanks Andy and the staff of the Fan Club for arranging a marvelous camping for us!
